Comerio

On this day, we journeyed inland in search of a fabled land. Behold! Comerio! The pearl of the Plata River.  It was in these green hills that the legend of the Cruz Family began.

The old bridge to Comerio and other small communities.
La Plata River
The lush, green mountains surrounding La Plata.
Abuelo feels connection to his roots.
Isabella, confused, always pictured her roots to be along the beach.

The family and La Plata
"What joy! You are now in Comerio"
It was such sweet joy. In the "old days," the car ride was a gamble. Those barricades are new.
Before, only a coqui frog stood between you and a long fall into La Plata.

Despite being a very small town, Comerio has embraces the green movement.
They also have the best 3G coverage in all of Puerto Rico.

Former tabacco warehouse. Tabacco production was once a economic staple.

One church.
Another church. My Grandparents were married in one of these.

 The town plaza.

Manger scene in the plaza.

Trandtional manger meets Puerto Rican tradition.

 Traditional building.

The streets are quite steep.
But people still park on them. And drive like Nascar participants.

These stairs have been around since my dad was a child.
The hand rail is new.

 Damn on La Plata.

The new bridge to Comerio and surrounding communities.
It was the first suspension bridge in Puerto Rico.
My grandpa refused to use such an ugly bridge.
